I learned from one of my favourite business writers the importance of setting what he calls “focus days”. A focus day is a day where you dedicate time to do high value work on your business. Don’t worry if you can’t dedicate an entire day to this, you will not need an entire day; one to two hours is perfect but take note:
- This focus time should be distraction free. You need this time to set agenda, clear to do’s off your lists and plan strategically so you can create real value for your business.
- You pick the day each week you want to do this activity and the time of day. It can be an hour if that’s all the time you have. Are you more focused and mentally charged in the morning or afternoon?
- This focus time is your business time, set a do not disturb, place all calls are on hold, no responding to emails or tasks that can wait.
Remember, this is a weekly calendar event, set reminders and plan for success.
